The genre is called ‘garage punk’

Copies of Calm Before, the iconic and highly-collectible 1967 vinyl album by The Rising Storm, is featured in the music collection at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. And the music the Storm’s six members played when they were students at Andover in the 1960s is known as “garage punk,” says the school’s head music librarian.

The band will perform in June at a dance for its class and all other classes at Phillips Academy and Abbot Academy celebrating their reunions this year. The two schools merged in 1973 to form a co-ed independent boarding school.
